MPP (Machine Payment Protocol)

Why it matters

Unlike x402 (a request-response flow), MPP declares payment information directly in the API's OpenAPI contract — by reading the specification the agent already knows which operations are paid and how to pay, before making the first call. It is payment as part of the API documentation, not a surprise in the middle of the integration. The same care as with x402 applies: declaring x-payment-info tells an agent it may pay for that operation on its own. Before turning this on for real, have spending limits, idempotency and some way to audit or reverse the charge.
